Australia
I visited Australia on my six-month backpacking trip and had the pleasure of spending a month in the ‘land down under’. Penguins in Melbourne, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, an encounter with Wombats and a trip to K’gari Island stick out as highlights for me. We travelled up to Cairns on the East Coast and it was a blast! I’d love to return one day to do it justice on my blog.

Things to know before visiting Australia
- If you’re from the UK, you can apply for an eVisitor Visa for free and it’s valid for up to 90 days.
- Australia is HUGE. Don’t underestimate the hours it can take to get from Sydney to Cairns on a typical trip. Be prepared for lots of Greyhound journeys if you’re not driving.
- Kangaroos are very sweet to look at but they can be violent if provoked or trying to protect their joey. Be aware!
- Always be mindful of the flags on beaches before you enter the ocean. Sharks are very active in these waters.
- That being said, there are so many things that can bite or harm you in Australia. So, best to do research!
