Bugcat Capoo fans, did you know that you can visit a Bugcat Capoo Café in Taichung?

It’s called the Foam Cat Café and is based on the adorable character Foamcat from the Capoo World.

Inside, you can order all sorts of treats based on Bugcat Capoo and his friends, including the famous pancake toppers for your drinks.

I was a little bit obsessed with Bugcat Capoo on my travels through Taiwan, and so I had a wonderful time in this whimsical place.

Here is a complete guide for the Bugcat Capoo Foam Cat Café in Taichung and whether it’s worth visiting.

What is Bugcat Capoo?

Bugcat Capoo is an adorable brand created by the Taiwanese author and artist Yara in 2014.

The main character is Bugcat Capoo, a blue creature that is part cat, part bug and has a gruesome appetite.

There are many friends in Capoo’s world, including Dogdog, Tutu, Chick, Lala, Mika and Black Bugcat.

The cartoon has millions of followers, and is so popular in Taiwan that there are several stores and even a Bugcat Capoo café in Taichung.

The Foam Cat Café is themed on the lovable character Foamcat. They are a self-moving cappuccino that resembles a snail in its coffee cup shell.

Where is the Foam Cat Café in Taiwan?

There used to be two Foam Cat Cafés in Taichung, with one being inside the Old Taichung Station. But that has since closed down.

There is now only one Foam Cat Café located on Minquan Road in Houlong Village of the West District.

It’s a 30-minute walk from Taichung Station, or you can take a local bus from the station to Minquan Road in around 15 minutes.

I highly recommend buying an Easycard in Taiwan to pay for public transport. You can even find Bugcat Capoo Easycards!

Arriving at the Foam Cat Café

After traipsing through the hot streets of Taichung, I was glad to find the Foam Cat Café for a much-needed sit-down in the air conditioning.

It’s a huge white building with a Bugcat Capoo Foam Cat Café sign out front welcoming you inside.

I loved the huge cat-shaped archway, and there’s a statue of Foamcat in their cappuccino cup you can pose with.

There is also a row of tables with parasols outside if you want to enjoy your time outdoors during warmer months.

Inside the Bugcat Capoo Café

The Foam Cat Café is delightfully aesthetic, bright and welcoming. I loved how the large glass windows let in lots of natural daylight.

You’ll find a cat-shaped gift shop display, a till to order drinks and a large counter on one side.

On the opposite side, you’ll find a selection of white tables with seating.

I loved how there were comfy Foamcat cushions on all the tables to pose with.

Although there are plenty of tables, the café is really popular. So, there can sometimes be queues to sit down at peak times.

What’s on the menu?

The Foam Cat Café serves an aesthetic range of drinks and sweet treats themed like Bugcat Capoo and friends.

You’ll find a huge range of coffees on the menu, which you can have served hot or iced.

Something I found strange is that there were no coffees with foam art. It was the perfect opportunity considering the name.

There are also tea, matcha and lemonade drinks that you can order. All the drinks come served in special themed cups.

The Foam Cat Café is famous for its signature Bugcat Capoo pancake toppers that sit on top of your cup. These are both cute and tasty.

They also have an amazing range of cakes, tarts, and biscuits shaped like Bugcat Capoo, Foamcat and Dogdog.

There are blue Bugcat lemon tarts, strawberry cakes, Foamcat tiramisu,  red bean paste buns, and more.

What’s the food like?

I actually went to the Foam Cat Café a few times in Taichung. I visited both branches in Old Taichung Station (now closed) and Minquan Road.

My regular order was an iced black coffee with one of the gorgeous signature Bugcat Capoo pancake toppers.

These not only look adorable but taste delicious too. They are almost like a snack and drink in one.

I also tried one of their Bugcat Capoo lemon tarts, which came with blue icing over a tangly filling on a biscuit base. It was delectable.

Another thing I sampled was one of their red bean paste buns. It was nice, but I’m not the biggest fan of bean filling. So, I wouldn’t order it again.

Foam Cat Café Gift Shop

There’s a Foam Cat Café gift shop beside the till area selling a cute range of Bugcat Capoo merchandise.

Here, you’ll find a selection of plushies, badges, postcards, mugs, tote bags and more.

I really had to refrain from buying trinkets in Taiwan, but I couldn’t resist a Foamcat plush charm in its cappuccino mug.

I wanted to buy everything as Bugcat Capoo and his friends are just so cute!

Carter Island Concept Store

If you head upstairs towards the toilets, you can find a Carter Island Concept Store.

They sell a range of Bugcat Capoo collaboration merchandise with Taiwanese brands.

They have a large statue of Dogdog as you enter, and you can browse the shelves and hangers filled with cute clothes and home items.

It’s worth heading upstairs anyway to see the Bugcat Capoo statues and artwork they have inside. It’s all very sweet.

It’s a paradise for Bugcat Capoo lovers and serves up a tasty range of drinks and sweet treats.

I loved the adorable pancake toppers for drinks and couldn’t get over how lovely everything was. The service is also friendly and welcoming.

If you love cute characters, you won’t regret visiting the whimsical Foam Cat Café in Taiwan.

Opening hours

The Bugcat Capoo Café is open from 11 am – 7 pm Tuesday to Sunday. It’s completely closed on Mondays.

To avoid a long queue for a table, I would get there just as they open, as it’s a very popular place.

I arrived just after opening time, and there was only one other person inside. But by the time I left, a long queue had formed.

Visit the Bugcat Capoo House next

Just around the corner from the Foam Cat Café, you’ll find the Bugcat Capoo House.

This is a huge store selling all sorts of Bugcat Capoo merchandise with plenty of photo opportunities too.

Inside, they sell a massive range of plushies, figurines, artwork, postcards, pin badges and bags.

There’s also a huge row of gachapon machines, blind boxes, stamp stations, and artwork to browse.

I loved all the photo zones you could pose with. There were so many statues and gorgeous displays.

It’s a paradise for any Bugcat Capoo fan, and you really can’t skip it in Taichung!

What happened to the Taichung Station Foam Cat Café?

I was dismayed to find out that the Old Taichung Station Bugcat Capoo Café permanently closed down.

It was a much larger café, with more tables, a huge shop, photo zones and cute statues outside.

It was a little darker than the newer Foam Cat Café, but I thought the interiors were charming.

I hope they will bring some of the statues over to the new café and stamp station, as they are too cute to abandon.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. It’s a shame, but what can you do?

I’ll add some photos so you can see what the Old Taichung Station Foam Cat Café was like. Let me know which one you prefer.
