Ah, France. I have a love-hate relationship with Paris. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Montmartre as much as the next Francophile. But, I hate the litter and unfriendly service. It’s good to remember that France is not just Paris, though. You have the gorgeous fairytale towns of Alsace, majestic castles in the Loire Valley, the beaches of Brittany and the Lavender fields of Provence. Let’s start planning!

Things to know before visiting France
- If you’re from Europe, you do not need a visa for short tourist trips to France. You can stay for a maximum of 90 days.
- Watch your things in Paris! It’s rife with pickpockets and people will snatch a phone straight out of your hands.
- Don’t just stay in Paris. There are countless amazing destinations you can visit away from the capital city.
- It’s best to learn some basic French phrases as locals don’t like speaking English. “Bonjour”, “Merci”, “Parlez-vous anglais?”…
- I often find that hospitality in Paris can be prickly. I’ve learned just to deal with it, let it go, and visit in smaller doses.
