Harajuku Harry Potter Shop in Tokyo – Magical Experience for Potterheads!

Witches and wizards of all houses, did you know that there is a new Harajuku Harry Potter Shop in Tokyo?

It’s a mammoth magical store with exclusive merchandise, enchanting theming, heaps of photo opportunities and its own Butterbeer Bar!

It’s every Potterhead’s dream come true, and so you must visit when you’re in Japan. 

Here is a Muggle’s guide to the flagship Harry Potter Shop in Tokyo with everything you need to know. 

What is the Harajuku Harry Potter Shop?

The Harry Potter Shop in Harajuku offers an enchanting shopping experience in Tokyo.

It officially opened its doors on the 14th of August 2025, and it’s Japan’s very first flagship Harry Potter store. 

It has two large floors that are filled with magical merchandise, incredible theming, and you can even buy a glass of Butterbeer.

As soon as I saw Tom Felton attend the opening ceremony a few months ago online, I knew I had to visit on my recent trip to Tokyo. 

Why should you visit? 

There are so many enchanting reasons to visit this magical shop in Tokyo. 

For one, it has almost every Harry Potter souvenir you could think of! 

But there are also photo opportunities, hidden gems and other treats waiting in store for you too. 

It’s like a portal that transports you straight to the Wizarding World, and I loved every moment. 

If you’re also a Potterhead, you could easily spend a couple of hours here, as there are so many magical things to do.

Things to do in the Harajuku Harry Potter Shop

1. Watch the magical opening ceremony 

If you happen to be in Harajuku before 11 am, I highly recommend waiting in line for the shop to open.

The kind staff (or wizards) perform a magical opening ceremony to let you into the shop.

You can join them by saying “Alohomora”, the Unlocking Charm, and the doors will open!

2. Shop for exclusive merchandise 

The Harajuku Harry Potter shop has endless merchandise that will leave you enchanted.

You can shop for robes and Hogwarts school uniforms of every house. Where are my fellow Slytherins? 

There are plushies of your favourite characters (the Nifflers are SO sweet), keyrings, mugs, and all sorts of mystical apparel. 

Look out for exclusive Harajuku Harry Potter merchandise dotted around.

You can find a teddy bear, a jersey, socks, mugs, and even a Buckbeak keychain.  

3. Bow to Buckbeak

Talking of Buckbeak, you can find a life-size version of Hagrid’s Hippogriff in the centre of the floor. 

It feels like you’re walking through a scene in The Prisoner of Azkaban.

He’s surrounded by pumpkins from the hut’s pumpkin patch, and it makes a fabulous photo opportunity.

Why not bow to him and see if he bows back to you? 

4. Find the Bowtruckles

The theming inside Harajuku’s Harry Potter Shop has unbelievable attention to detail, and there are so many hidden gems to find.

If you look at the trees, you’ll see some peepholes on the trunks that allow you to look inside.

Take a peek, and you’ll find some adorable Bowtruckles from Fantastic Beasts. 

There are many to find in all sorts of adorable scenarios. I loved the book version!

5. Enter the Forbidden Forest  

To head up to the second floor of this magical shop, you need to enter the Forbidden Forest.

As you make your way up the escalator, you’ll find some of your favourite creatures hidden on the way.

Look out for Hedwig flying overhead, Harry’s stag petronus, or say hello to Firenze the Centaur. 

6. Choose a magical wand 

As Ollivander says, the wand chooses the Wizard, and there are plenty of options in the Harajuku Harry Potter Shop.

You can buy almost any wand of your favourite character from the series. 

Take a look at their impressive wand stand to see what takes your fancy.

Or, browse the shelves of Unicorn Hair and Dragon Heartstrings to find your perfect match.

7. Chocolate frog photo spot

Have you ever wanted to be one of the wizards found on a Chocolate Frog Card? Well, now is your moment!

The shop has a magical Chocolate Frog photo opportunity to remember your visit to the Harajuku Harry Potter Shop. 

So, grab your phone, get in line and strike a pose! 

8. MinaLima Gallery

Have you ever wondered who designed the Hogwarts Acceptance Letters, Marauder’s Map, and the Daily Prophet newspapers in the Harry Potter movies?

Well, it’s The House of MinaLima, a graphic design duo based in London made up of Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima.

They were responsible for designing many of the iconic props that were used in some of the most memorable scenes.

Howlers, Butterbeer logos, Honeydukes’ Sweet wrappers, Tom Riddle’s Diary. It was all down to this genius pair!

The shop has a huge MinaLima gallery where you can buy many of these designs as posters, notebooks, totes and framed art.

9. Harajuku Butterbeer Bar 

One of the best parts of visiting the Harajuku Harry Potter store is its Butterbeer Bar. 

You can find this on the second floor, and it’s a pop-up shop where you can sample the Wizarding World’s favourite beverage. 

As well as glasses of Butterbeer, they serve up Butterbeer ice cream and a Harajuku exclusive of a pizza Buckbeak Bun. 

I loved the special Harajuku cups they were served in, and the atmosphere was also enchanting. 

It’s the only place in Japan where you can purchase the drink outside of the theme park and studio tour.

So, I would grab this ticket-free opportunity with both hands while you can.

10. Visit Honeydukes & take the lot!

Lastly, who can visit a Harry Potter attraction without buying a sweet treat from Honeydukes?

They have heaps of Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, Honeydukes Toffee and Exploding Bon Bons to choose from.

You can, quite literally, ‘take the lot’ if you have the Gringotts Galleons to spare.

Is Harajuku’s Harry Potter shop worth visiting?

If you’re a Potterhead, then yes, you must visit the Harajuku Harry Potter shop. 

It will transport you straight to the Wizarding World with all the enchanting theming, photo opportunities and merchandise. 

The best part is being able to visit their Butterbeer bar, where you can refuel while you shop. 

It’s every witch or wizard’s dream come true, and you don’t want to miss it.

So, make sure to grab your broom and fly to Tokyo for this magical shopping experience. 

How to find the Harry Potter Shop in Harajuku

This whimsical Harry Potter Shop can be found in Harajuku, a popular shopping area of Tokyo.

The easiest way to explore this metropolis is by using a combination of the metro and walking.

The closest metro stations are Meiji-jingumae ‘Harajuku’ Station (2 minutes walk) and Harajuku Station (8 minutes walk).

Opening times 

Harajuku’s Harry Potter Shop is open from:

• Monday to Saturday: 11 am – 9 pm
• Sunday: 11 am – 6 pm

So, there’s plenty of time to plan a magical shopping experience on your trip to Tokyo! 

My top tips for visiting

• Visit early – this shop gets very busy, especially in the late afternoon/evenings. I would visit earlier to avoid long queues.

• Go on a weekday – the same applies to weekends, as it gets packed. Visit during the week for a nicer shopping experience. 

• Take your time – there are so many magical things to find in this shop. Make sure to take your time and find them all.

You only have to visit Akasaka with its own Harry Potter metro station and Wizarding World Street to see that the love runs deep.

Around Akasaka Station, you can see a giant time turner on the staircase along with a portrait gallery straight from Hogwarts Castle.

You can then visit the Harry Potter Café and treat yourself to one of their magical meals and cocktails.

At the TBS Akasaka ACT Theater you can book tickets to watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Or, why not visit their takeaway Harry Potter Cafe Window with its own gift shop next door? 

In Nerima City, you can visit The Making of Harry Potter, a studio tour of your favourite sets, props and behind-the-scenes movie magic. 

It’s similar to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London, but it does have some exclusive experiences.

For example, you can take a photo in Hogwarts Library and enter the Ministry of Magic through Floo Powder portals. 

Lastly, if you’re heading to Osaka, be sure to visit Universal Studios Japan.

They have an entire Harry Potter area, which is a dream come true for Potterheads.

You can walk down Hogsmeade, sip on ButterBeer, eat at the Three Broomsticks and even step inside Hogwarts Castle.
