From Pokémon and Sanrio to sushi, mountains and shrines, Japan is a destination that has it all. But, it’s good to note that it’s experiencing overtourism and things will be busy! Things to know before visiting Japan
- UK citizens can travel for up to 90 days visa-free. Use the Visit Japan Web service for a QR code to speed up entry.
- You can download a Suica Card to your phone to use the metro and public transport in Japan. Or, use a physical card.
- It’s worth learning a few useful phrases before you go. Hello (Konnichiwa), Thank you (Arigato Gozaimasu), etc.
- There are many unspoken rules, like not littering, not talking on the metro, and not eating while walking. Learn etiquette.
- Combini stores are literal lifesavers in Japan. Use them for cheap eats, drinks, medicine, ATMs etc.
