Things to know before visiting Laos
- You will need a tourist visa to enter Laos. You can purchase an e-visa in advance or at the overland immigration borders.
- There is now a Laos-China railway that connects major places. But, buses and boats are still popular ways to travel.
- The official religion of Laos is Theravada Buddhism. It is important to dress conservatively and respect local culture.
- Laos is generally safe to visit. Don’t go out late at night, especially in Vientiane, and have locks on your luggage.
- Be wary of animals like monkeys and stray dogs to avoid contracting rabies. Have a preventative vaccine before you go.
