Hey Miffy fans, did you know that there is a Miffy Café in Tokyo?

That’s right, and it’s a vibrant restaurant dedicated to the adorable white bunny created by Dick Bruna.

Not only does this kawaii café feel like you’ve stepped into the pages of a Miffy book, but every single item on the menu is Miffy-themed.

You have to visit if you’re a fan or simply love places with enchanting animated characters.

Here is a complete guide for the Miffy Café Tokyo, and whether it’s worth visiting.

What is the Miffy Café Tokyo?

The Miffy Café in Tokyo is a whimsical restaurant dedicated to everyone’s favourite white rabbit, Miffy.

Although the cute bunny was created by the Dutch artist Dick Bruna in 1955, Miffy has become somewhat of a kawaii icon in Japan in recent years.

You’ll find Miffy shops and bakeries throughout the country, as well as a Miffy theme park within Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki.

This adorable rabbit is so popular there now that many people think Miffy is a Japanese creation and not from the Netherlands!

Due to this growing popularity, Tokyo has its very own Miffy Café, decorated like the books and has a themed menu.

It’s a relatively new but permanent venture that opened in 2023 after a wildly successful temporary pop-up shop in Shibuya.

It’s a paradise for Miffy and Dick Bruna fans or those who love adorable animated characters.

Do you need a reservation?

No, you don’t need a reservation to visit the Miffy Café in Tokyo. They do accept walk-ins on the day.

I didn’t reserve a table, and turned up at opening time on a weekend. I was seated straight away.

However, its popularity means it’s a very busy restaurant, and so it’s packed throughout the day.

It’s highly recommended to make a reservation to avoid disappointment on Table Check.

You do have to pay ¥660 per person to guarantee your booking. This amount is added to your bill, and you get to choose a free Miffy badge in exchange.

Where is the Miffy Cafe in Tokyo?

The Miffy Café is located in Daikanyama, which is a five-minute train journey from Shibuya Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line.

It’s conveniently located right outside the Daikanyama train station, so you won’t struggle finding it.

The station serves as an entry point to this underrated Tokyo neighbourhood, so it’s a perfect place to fill up before a day of exploring.

Arriving at the Miffy Café

You really can’t miss the Miffy Café Tokyo as it is decorated in bright colours reminiscent of the Miffy books!

The front of the café is painted in vibrant yellow and orange with both indoor and outdoor seating.

There is an adorable statue of Miffy riding a tortoise out front, which is from a scene in Bruna’s picture book ‘Miffy & the Zoo’.

This makes such a great photo opportunity, and I couldn’t wait to step inside.

What is it like inside?

Just like the outside, the inside has been brightly decorated. You will honestly feel like you’ve stepped into the pages of a Miffy book.

It’s been painted in block colours and has lots of lovely portraits of Miffy on the walls.

There were also light wood panels that matched the wooden tables throughout the restaurant.

I have to admit, the layout of the café surprised me. There were only two tables for couples, and the rest were larger sharing tables.

There was then a row of seats lined up by the window with a view outside.

These seats are directly behind the Miffy statue, so you’ll be in people’s photos constantly.

I guess the economised seating was designed to save space and accommodate more diners, but it did feel a little awkward.

Also, all of the seats were hard wooden stools with no cushion or backrest. As an elder millennial, this was disappointing.

It wasn’t a deal breaker, but all of these things together should be considered if you prefer your dining experiences to be more comfortable and private.

Miffy Café Tokyo menu

Every single item on the menu, whether drinks or food, is Miffy themed in someway.

As I visited for breakfast, I indulged in their Miffy scrambled egg plate that came with meatballs, avocado and a side of Miffy toast.

They had a meatball pie shaped like Miffy’s head, sandwiches with a Miffy sticker, a Miffy shortcake plate and a Dutch apple pie with a Miffy biscuit.

In winter, they also had a Miffy miso clam chowder and a Miffy mochi choux pastry too.

The drinks are mainly served in Miffy mugs, but they do have some colourful lemonades, sodas and matcha drinks to try, decorated with edible flowers.

Everything looks adorable and almost too cute to consume. But you can expect to pay higher prices due to the theming.

Did you know? With each order, you can choose what colour plate you receive your food on to match the aesthetic.

What is the food like?

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the food here as I had read some horrible reviews beforehand.

But it’s always good to remember that this is a theme café. It’s not going to be gourmet as the experience is about the decor and vibes.

As I mentioned earlier, I decided to order the Miffy scrambled egg plate. This came with meatballs, avocado, eggs and a side of toast with Miffy’s face.

It was so pretty, and I couldn’t stop taking photos. The meatballs were really tasty, the avocado fresh, but the eggs were pretty watery.

I also couldn’t resist ordering one of their Miffy meatball pies. I didn’t know what the meat was wrapped in, but it was very tasty.

Finally, I decided to order one of their Miffy financiers. This was a light and moist almond cake. It was delicious and finished my brunch on a sweet note.

I washed my meal down with Mother Bunny’s lemonade. It was equal parts tasty and photogenic with all the edible flowers sprinkled on top!

I really enjoyed the food here, especially as it all looked so cute and inviting.

But this kawaii feast did come at a cost. My total bill came to ¥3260 or £15.54.

If you compare it to regular Japanese restaurant prices, this is a lot. But it was on par with other themed cafés I visited in Japan.

It’s also very affordable if you compare the menu prices to those in London or Western Europe.

Miffy Café gift shop

Before you leave Tokyo’s Miffy Café, you must check out their gift shop.

You’ll find it at the back of the restaurant by the tills, and they sell lots of exclusive Miffy merchandise!

There are picture books, badges, crockery, magnets, plush keychains and large plushies as well.

I bought one of their adorable keychains to remember my visit, as I enjoyed this whimsical experience so much.

Yes, if you love Miffy or anything kawaii, then you will absolutely love dining at the Miffy Café Tokyo.

Not only does the experience feel like you’re walking through the pages of a Miffy Book but the food is also creative and beautifully presented.

Opening hours

The Miffy Café is normally open from:

  • Monday – Friday: 10 am – 7.30 pm
  • Saturday & Sunday: 8.30 am – 9.05 pm

I visited for the opening time on a Sunday and was one of the first people to sit down for the day.

It was a lovely time to visit, as it was relatively quiet and the service was friendly and quick.
