Nepal is one of my favourite countries in the entire world. Although the main highlight is Mount Everest and the Himalayas, there are other incredible destinations to visit. Kathmandu is the capital city but I would recommend heading out to peaceful areas such as Pokhara, Chitwan and Lumbini – the Birthplace of Buddha! Things to know before visiting Nepal
- You will need a tourist visa to enter Nepal. You can apply online or buy one on arrival at the airport or overland.
- The official religion of Nepal is Hinduism and you will need to dress conservatively to respect the local culture.
- Nepal is generally a very safe country to visit. There are some mild scams and petty theft. Bring locks for your luggage.
- As a mountain country, expect bumpy bus travel to get around.
- Be wary of animals like monkeys and stray dogs to avoid contracting rabies. Have a preventative vaccine before you go.
