Things to know before visiting Portugal
- You do not need a visa for short tourist trips to Portugal. You can stay for a maximum of 90 days visa-free.
- Never speak Spanish to a Portuguese person. They speak Portuguese and will be offended.
- Don’t just visit the main tourist hub of Lisbon. The north is also spectacular with places like Porto and Douro Valley.
- Avoid heading to Sintra in summer as the crowd levels and heat will be unbearable.
- I recommend purchasing a Lisbon Card to save money on attractions and free transport (incl. a train to Sintra).
