Serbia was the first country I landed in the Balkans and it’s highly underrated. I loved exploring the city of Belgrade. The fortress, St Sava Church and Data Status Bookshop were highlights. But, I also loved my day trip to Novi Sad with Petrovaradin Fortress. Don’t miss the fairytale Golubac Fortress & Iron Gates Gorge. It’s a magical place that leaves a lasting impression. Things to know before visiting Serbia
- UK residents can travel for up to 90 days in Serbia for free.
- Serbia is a homogeneous Christian country and 80% of the population identify as Serbian Orthodox.
- Serbia does not recognise Kosovo as a country, so be careful when planning to cross over their shared borders.
- Serbia uses the Dinar (RSD), but the Euro is accepted. Cash is still very much king!
- There is free bus travel in the city centre of Belgrade. They are a lifesaver to get around the city.
