I have to admit, I had heard some pretty daunting stories about the UAE before my visit. As a woman travelling alone, I had no idea what to expect. But, I’m happy to say that I loved my birthday visit to Dubai! From the towering heights of the Burj Khalifa to the remote desert and Palm Jumeirah – there really isn’t another place like it. I also recommend heading to Abu Dhabi to see the breathtaking Grand Mosque that glitters with all the marble. Let’s start planning the next Arabian adventure!

Things to know before visiting UAE
- If you’re from the UK, you can get a free tourist visa on arrival in Dubai that is valid for 40 days.
- UAE is predominantly Islamic and you should dress a little more conservatively to respect local culture.
- UAE is also under Sharia Law. So, things like gambling and drinking are ‘illegal’. But, they are pretty lax with tourists.
- Women should also be careful shouting or swearing at men as this is something they can detain you for (yep).
- There are women-only carriages on the metro and bus drivers will prefer that women are seated together if you’re alone.
