I loved Vietnam when I was backpacking through South East Asia. Dramatic Ha Long Bay, sprawling Da Lat hills, the lanterns of Hoi An and cruising down the Mekong Delta stick out for me. But, also I remember playing chicken with crazy traffic and a Communism fetish. It’s a bit wild. Get used to overnight sleeper buses if you’re on a budget as there’s lots of travelling involved! - The official religion of Vietnam is Theravada Buddhism. It is important to dress conservatively and respect local culture.
- Vietnam is generally safe to visit. Don’t go out late at night in the bigger cities and put locks on your luggage.
- Be wary of animals like monkeys and stray dogs to avoid contracting rabies. Have a preventative vaccine before you go.
