News from The Continent! Witcher fans, did you know that there is a Witcher-themed restaurant in Poland?

It’s called the Wolf Pit Tavern (Wilczy dół) and an evening here is guaranteed to transport you straight to the Witcherverse.

You’ll dine on scrumptious fire-grilled food in decorated medieval cellars that are romantically lit by candlelight.

There’s also a chance to brew potions, pay in Ducats, shop for wares and play a few rounds of Gwent.

It’s the perfect immersive experience for Witcher fans. I loved it so much I went twice. You simply must go if you’re visiting Krakow.

The Witcher restaurant in Krakow

You enter the Wolf Pit on Szpitalna Street and it’s located inside what appears to be an old shopping arcade.

Just follow the signs and walk down the steps to head inside.

As soon as you enter the Wolf Pit Tavern, you’ll feel like you have been transported straight into the Witcherverse.

The entire restaurant looks like a medieval inn and all the rooms are lit by candlelight and decorated with a hotchpotch of Witcher decor.

My favourite was the cellar with all the heraldic flags, shields and weapons that looked like it had been pulled straight out of a tavern in Novigrad.

You also have a dungeon room fitted with a gibbet and torture equipment.

This gave me serious Ladies of the Wood vibes with the hanging skulls and charms.

Plus, there is an alchemist’s room like in Kaer Morhen with a hotchpotch of potion bottles and a giant wing overhead!

All of the rooms have plush rugs, candlelit tables and seats lined with (faux) furs. I also adored that they play the Witcher soundtrack as you dine.

The servers will be dressed up in medieval style with pointed ears and weapons on their backs. Nothing is stopping you from joining them.

What do they serve at Wolf Pit Tavern?

Once you’re seated at your table, you’ll be given a leather-bound book which acts as a welcome and menu for Wilczy dół.

Polish will be at the front and an English translation will be at the back. Prepare yourself wanderer as there is a lot to read!

I do recommend browsing through this thoroughly as it gives you an introduction to the tavern, the rules and how everything works while you’re here.

Eventually, you’ll reach the food section which is a range of traditional Polish fare with a medieval flair.

I ordered their chicken cooked over the fire both times I went and it was delicious! It came with pitta bread, roast veggies and salad.

You can order smaller dishes like fresh soups and homemade pierogi up to feasts ‘for those as hungry as a wolf’ which are fire-grilled meat platters with potatoes and coleslaw.

For my herbivores out there, they do have some vegan/vegetarian options on the menu.

If you wanted a sweet ending to your story, I recommend their warm chocolate and black cherry brownie.

It’s pretty rich and decadent but I thought missing out on this treat would be The Greater Evil.

Brew potions like a Witcher

What I loved about the cocktail menu at the Wolf Pit Tavern was that you could order potions to brew.

I ordered their famous Love Potion which was essentially an Aperol Spritz.

You’ll be given a tray that has a scroll of instructions and all sorts of bottles to mix up your magical beverage.

Watch out as your glass will start to bubble and smoke as your potion brews.

The results of your hard work will finally be revealed and it will be ready for you to taste!

It’s good to note that any of the cocktails on the menu can be served without alcohol. Just make sure to let your server know.

They also have instant potions (shots) such as Sparrow and Cat. But, if you don’t want spirits, you can always order from their large range of soft drinks and beers on tap.

Visit the Shoppe

In true medieval style, the Wolf Pit Tavern have a Shoppe towards the back of the restaurant owned by the merchant ‘Barduk’.

Here, you can purchase all sorts of The Witcher-themed souvenirs such as figurines, Pop! collectables, beer mugs, keyrings, jewellery, bottles of beer and more.

The best part is that you can trade your Polish Zloty for the tavern’s very own currency of Ducats.

Pay in Ducats

That’s right, one of the coolest parts about visiting the Wolf Pit Tavern is that you can pay in their Witcher Coins.

Simply pay your Polish Zloty to the owner of the Shoppe and they will convert your cash or ‘magic credit card’ currency into their own currency of Ducats.

You’re probably wondering at this point ‘Why should I bother?’.

Well, apart from being an awesome perk of visiting the Witcher tavern, these Ducats get you a discount on menu prices. It’s a no-brainer in my opinion.

You have to transfer a minimum of 40 Ducats which is around 100 PLN (£20).

But, you will spend this in no time as there are so many magical things to trade them for.

These coins were SO fab as they were silver and had a wolf sigil with ‘Wilczy dół’ stamped on them. I kept some of my Ducats as a souvenir.

Have a go at archery

If you fancy taking your Witcher training to the next level then you can head to the back of the tavern to their training room.

Inside, you can pay for an archery lesson from a master bowman.

The lessons last for around 20 minutes and you can see how many times you can hit the balls-eye on their target.

The lessons can be quite popular so be prepared to queue, especially in the evenings.

Play Gwent

What I loved about this Witcher Restaurant was the fact that you could play Gwent at the tables over a drink.

If you are a fan, then Gwent will need no introduction. But, for those who don’t know it’s a popular card game in the Witcherverse.

It’s a strategy card game of choices and consequences, where skill, not luck, is your greatest weapon.

You can ask the tavern for their sets if you want to play a round with your friends!

Witcher photo opportunities

It’s also worth taking a wander around the tavern after your meal as there are some really cool photo opportunities to be found here.

They have a throne that you can sit on with helmets and swords where you can take a seat and pose like a king or queen.

You can visit their stocks for a bit of medieval punishment. Or, look out for some costumes of the found family; Geralt, Yen and Ciri!

Is the Wolf Pit Tavern worth visiting?

It’s probably pretty obvious by now but YES, I highly recommend visiting the Wolf Pit Tavern in Krakow.

I had such a great time on my visit that I ended up going back. I just loved everything about this fantasy restaurant. It felt like I was transported to another world entirely.

The Witcher theming, the music, the amazing food, the yummy cocktails and paying in Ducats just made my Geralt-loving heart so happy.

There are so few immersive experiences for Witcher fans around the globe but this place was heaven if you love anything to do with the Witcherverse.

Don’t skip the Wolf Pit Tavern in Krakow. It’s hands down the most magical restaurant in the entire city!

How to find the Wolf Pit Tavern in Krakow

You can find the Wolf Pit Tavern close to the market square in Krakow Old Town with its stunning medieval Cloth Hall.

It’s located on Szpitalna Street inside a repurposed shopping arcade.

You’ll easily locate the Wolf Pit though as it is signposted out front and has lots of signs inside to guide you.

Head down the torchlit stairs with all the heraldic flags to the bottom floor and you can then queue for a table at the entrance.

My top tips for visiting

Prepare to queue – this tavern is SO busy and you’ll most likely be waiting in a queue for a table. It goes pretty quickly, though. I have heard you can now reserve a table via Facebook Messenger.

Pay in their Ducats – if you transfer your Polish Zloty for their currency of Ducats you save a little bit of money.

It’s quite dark inside – some of the rooms are quite dark and lit with low candlelight. I loved this personally as it’s a vibe, but I know it isn’t for everyone. There are (slightly) lighter rooms to find.

Have fun and loosen up – this is a Witcher-inspired fantasy restaurant, and so they play up to the theme. If you need something, ask and make sure to take that stick out of your a** (their words, not mine).

If you are a fan of The Witcher, then you must visit Ogrodzieniec Castle, which was a filming location for the hit Netflix series.

This is the castle that featured as the elven keep at Sodden Hill during the last episode of series on,e where the mages fight off Nilfgaard.

It’s only a 90-minute drive or a 2-hour train ride away from Krakow, and it makes such a great day trip for fans!

The castle is in an area called the Polish Jura, and it forms part of the Trail of the Eagles’ Nests, which has 25 medieval castles to explore.

As a Witcher fan, I had such a great time chasing down all of the filming locations here. It’s another place that transported me straight to Geralt’s world.
